Because Romania has been a full Schengen member since January 2025, tourist travel to the country is possible without internal border checks for holders of a valid Schengen visa or residence permit. Romania offers a wide range of attractions: from Transylvania's legendary castles to the Black Sea coast, the Carpathian Mountains, and the Danube Delta — one of the world's largest biosphere reserves.

1Transylvanian Castles & Historic Towns

  • Peleș Castle and Bran Castle (known as "Dracula's Castle") are the country's most-visited historic attractions; note that neither is formally on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
  • The Historic Centre of Sighișoara is UNESCO-listed and, along with Brașov and Sibiu, is among the finest examples of Transylvanian medieval architecture.

2Nature: Carpathians & Danube Delta

  • Poiana Brașov and Sinaia are Romania's leading ski resorts in the Carpathian Mountains.
  • The Danube Delta, UNESCO-listed since 1991 and recognized as a biosphere reserve, is a premier destination for nature tourism and birdwatching.

3Black Sea Coast

  • Mamaia and Constanța are Romania's primary coastal destinations for the summer season.
  • The best travel season for most attractions is spring through early autumn; for ski resorts, winter is preferable.

4Visa for Iranian Tourists & Airport Transfer

  • Iranian citizens are not Schengen visa-exempt and need a Schengen visa for tourist travel to Romania, applied for in person at a consulate/visa center; contact the Romanian consulate directly for exact current requirements (including any invitation-letter rule), as procedures change.
  • From Henri Coandă Airport (Bucharest) to the city center: direct train to Gara de Nord in ~20–25 min (cheapest), express bus 783 in ~40–60 min, or taxi/Uber/Bolt for ~€10–20.
  • Uber and Bolt operate in most major Romanian cities (Bucharest, Cluj, Timișoara, and others) and are a reliable option for getting around.
